About Rural Water Supply

Access to safe and adequate drinking water is a basic necessity for a healthy and dignified life. In line with this belief, the Government of Odisha is working towards ensuring “Har Ghar Jal” – tap water supply to every rural household, so that no one is left out.

Under a people‑centric and decentralised governance framework, rural water supply programmes are being implemented with the active participation of Gram Panchayats, Village Water & Sanitation Committees, women Self Help Groups, and local communities, making drinking water a true Jan Andolan (people’s movement).

Rural water supply projects across Odisha are being implemented through a combination of Central and State Government funding, including: Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM – Har Ghar Jal) , Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)
Buxi Jagabandhu Assured Drinking Water to all Habitations (BASUDHA).

By converging these schemes, the State is expanding single‑village, multi‑village, mega, and solar‑based piped water supply systems, ensuring both reach and reliability.
